Vayyar Care is an Alexa-compatible device. This means that it connects and communicates with Alexa. In order to use this unique fall detection service, you will need at least one Vayyar Care device, an Alexa-enabled device such as an Amazon Echo, and an active Alexa Together subscription.
When setting up the device(s), make sure you start with the Alexa-enabled device and use the Alexa app. Then open the Vayyar Care app and follow the in-app prompts to finish setup and connect with Alexa. Within the Vayyar Care app, after completing the pairing process and entering the room measurements, you will be prompted to link the Vayyar Care and Alexa accounts.
Vayyar Care will monitor the room 24/7 and if there’s a fall, it will inform Alexa. Alexa will say that a fall has been detected and ask if assistance is required or not. If so, Alexa will connect with the Alexa Together Urgent Response emergency helpline which will notify a family member or designated caregiver.
If the user does not need assistance, they can stop the process within 30 seconds, either by saying 'Cancel' to Alexa or by standing up. If the care recipient does not respond when asked if help is required, Urgent Response will automatically be contacted by default.
To clarify, a member from the Urgent Response team does not contact the caregiver by phone. Instead, the caregiver receives a notification when Urgent Response is contacted and when the call with Urgent Response has ended. Once the second notification is received, an option to contact the care recipient will be displayed.
The care recipient can also use the emergency contact feature by saying, "Alexa, call emergency contact". The care giver or additional contact must be assigned as the emergency contact within the Alexa Together settings within the Alexa app prior to using this feature.
Additionally, the care recipient can contact Urgent Response as needed (without a fall occurring) by saying "Alexa, call for help". Trained response agents of the Urgent Response team can request assistance from the police, fire department or ambulance on behalf of the customer.
Unless instructed otherwise, help will be sent to the default emergency address provided during setup.
